The building was filled with parents, students and many visitors who were invited to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony.

The reason for the excitement is that Public School 201 is the recipient of a MAGNET education grant from District 25 and along with a very generous gift from Council Member Rory Lancman the school was able to be the first in the city school system to have created a STEAM Lab and Broadcasting Studio,

In the school auditorium, speaker after speaker could not say enough about the hard work of the school’s principal Dr. Rebecca Lozada, who in he few years she has been at the school many new programs were introduced to help improve the teaching and the learning at the school.

“It is my pleasure to welcome you here to the Discovery School for Inquiry & Research:STEAM Lab for this special occasion,” said PS 201 principal Dr. Rebecca Lozado. “ The opening of our STEAM Lab, Broadcasting studio and the upgrade of of Technology room will afford our students the prospect to form part of the first school in the NYC DOE to add a special kind of classroom called a “SMARTLAB” in partnership with the Creative Learning Systems.”

In addition to Dr. Lozado the speakers included NYC Public School Chancellor Carman Farina, City Council Member Rory Lancman, US Congresswoman Grace Meng, District 25 Superintendent  DiMango, Board of Regents member Margaret Chin, TO Levitt, Magnet Project Director.
