Steely Dan’s Walter Becker Was 67

The world bids a fond farewell to Walter Becker, one half of hit factory, Steely Dan. Becker was co-founder, songwriter, producer and performer along with his partner, Donald Fagen. They were ardent jazz aficionados who also incorporated Latin strains in their highly crafted music, winning Steely Dan eight platinum albums (if you count Aja, which went double platinum), three GRAMMYS out of nine nominations – and that’s not counting Canada. They have sold more than 40 million albums worldwide.
Becker was only 67 years old, and had a healthy lifestyle in Hawaii, where he owned an avocado farm. He was born in Forest Hills and lived there until his family moved to Scarsdale when he was still a child.
