Ridgewood Assault Victim Critical

By Liz Goff
Police are seeking help from the public to identify and locate two suspects in the vicious assault of a Ridgewood man on September 3.

Cops said the 57-year-old victim encountered the two suspects moments after he left a family gathering on Decatur Street near Cypress Avenue at about 1:30 am. The three men started to argue and one of the men suddenly struck the victim, forcing him head first to the pavement, police said.

Officers found the victim sprawled on the sidewalk outside 1644 Decatur St., with blood pouring from his mouth, an NYPD spokesperson said.

The man was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center in stable condition, but his injuries worsened and he was downgraded to critical condition.

Police said the man suffered swelling of the brain, which could have occurred when his head hit the pavement.

The two suspects fled the scene when the man slammed into the sidewalk, sources said.
