Cops Hunt Subway Slugger

By Liz Goff
Police are searching for a local fitness buff that slugged an MTA worker in the face on a non-moving N train in Astoria on August 9.

Police released surveillance footage showing the suspect jumping a turnstile at the Ditmars Boulevard “N” station at about 1 p.m. on August 9.
Cops said the MTA worker spotted the man moments later, performing calisthenics using poles on the stopped train. The worker approached the suspect and told him to stop, police said. “Doing chin-ups on the train?” the worker asked. “What is this, a f-----g gym,” the worker said.
The suspect became enraged by the way the worker spoke to him. The two men argued for a few minutes and the suspect suddenly “hauled off and slugged the worker in the face,” a police source said. The suspect then ran from the car and fled in an unknown direction.
The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male, 20-25 years old, with short black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a black short-sleeved shirt, blue jeans and black sneakers at the time of the attack.
The victim suffered small cuts on his lip and refused medical treatment at the scene, an FDNY spokesperson said.
