Cops Hunt Young Bear Bandits

By Liz Goff
Police are trying to determine the identities of a young boy and a teenage girl who allegedly worked in concert to steal two stuffed bears from a Sunnyside flower shop on August 1.

Cops said the boy and girl walked into Glowers By Giorgie at 45-17 Greenpoint Avenue at about 9:15 a.m. on August 1, where the girl distracted a clerk while the boy snatched a plush panda and a white, plush bear and ran from the store.
Sources said surveillance footage retrieved from the store shows the boy, approximately 8-10 years old, grabbing the Panda and hugging it to his body. Moments later, the boy is seen grabbing the bear and hugging it to the other side of his body, running from the store, the sources said.
The teenage girl remained behind until the clerk and storeowner went to look the surveillance footage. The girl was gone when the storeowner returned to the front of the shop, police said.
The storeowner posted the surveillance footage on Facebook shortly after the incident in the hopes that someone would recognize the young bear bandits. The storeowner said the panda is valued at $125 and the bear is valued at $85.
