Barnwell, Community Celebrate Independence Day

Assemblyman Brian Barnwell and Maspeth Federal Savings Bank hosted a public reading of the Declaration of Independence during an Independence Day celebration on June 30. Assemblyman Barnwell stated, “It was an honor to celebrate the independence of our country with the district. We must never forget the sacrifice of those who fought to make that document a reality. We must also remember that the promise of the Declaration of Independence still rings true today.” A representative from Maspeth Federal Savings Bank noted that “Maspeth Federal Savings is proud to partner with Assemblyman Barnwell in his public reading of the Declaration of Independence. We recognize the importance of highlighting the historical aspect of Independence Day as part of celebrating our freedom.” The June 30 celebration’s program included performances by the John Bowne High School’s JROTC, the FDNY band, as well as local singer, Desiree Wisotsky, who proudly sang the National Anthem and “God Bless America.” The program featured a reading of the Declaration of Independence led by NYS Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr. and a diverse group of community members, including the 104th Precinct, Eagle Scout Troop 45, Senior Girl Scout Troop 4589, COMET, AARP-Maspeth Chapter, Maspeth Town Hall, and students from local schools, including Maspeth High School, Razi School, Woodside Community School and Our World Charter School.
