Upgrades For Redwood Playground Unveiled

Queens Borough President Melinda Katz joined City Councilman Barry Grodenchik (third from r.), Queens Borough Parks Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski (second from l.), Community Board 8 Chair Martha Taylor, (second from r.), Community Board 8 District Manager Marie Adam-Ovide (l.) and Marc Haken of Community Board 8 and Friends of Cunningham Park (r.) at a June 14 event to unveil the design for the transformation of Redwood Playground, a play space for small children in Cunningham Park in Fresh Meadows. The planned upgrades include new play equipment and a new water spray feature, additional seating, improved landscaping, a more inviting 193rd Street entrance and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant access to the comfort station and the upper playground.  Borough President Katz contributed $1.2 million of her discretionary capital dollars to the $1.7 million project, with the remainder of the funding coming from the City Council.
