Sunnyside Cabbie Robbed At Gunpoint

By Liz Goff
Police are searching for two suspects who assaulted and robbed a Sunnyside cabbie in the early morning of May 27.

Cops said the cabbie was heading to work at about 2:45 a.m. on May 27,when the two suspects approached him as he stepped into his cab, parked outside 47-09 Skillman Avenue in Sunnyside.

One of the men displayed a weapon as the pair jumped into the cab, police said. The suspects punched, kicked and stole $200 from the cabbie before running away, police said.

The cabbie followed the suspects along Skillman Avenue to 48th Street, where one man fled into a courtyard inside an apartment complex. The second suspect disappeared while the cabbie was chasing down his accomplice, police sources said.

Police cordoned off the area and recovered a weapon – the same gun believed to have been used in the robbery, authorities said.

The suspects are described as black males, 20-30 years old.
