Design Unveiled For New Vietnam Veterans Memorial In Elmhurst Park

Queens Borough President Melinda Katz joined NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, Queens Parks Commissioner Dottie Lewandowski, NYS Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr., Councilmembers Daniel Dromm and Elizabeth Crowley and members of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 32 at the June 9 unveiling of the design for a memorial to veterans of the Vietnam War in Elmhurst Park. The semi-enclosed memorial will provide a contemplative space that honors those Queens residents who fell during the Vietnam War and was designed by NYC Parks in consultation with the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 32.  The project is funded through a $2.85 million funding allocation made by Borough President Katz, and the City Council. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2018, with an expected completion by fall 2019.
