Woodside Catholic Vets Hold Memorial Parade


Woodside Catholic War Veterans, St. Sebastian’s Post 870 held its 71st annual Memorial Day Parade in Woodside on Monday, May 29. The ceremonies ended with a wreath-laying at the Doughboy statue.

Marisa Pace, a graduate of West Point, the Officer of the Day was Kenneth Bobby and Woodside Catholic War Veterans Commander Ed Gambichler was the MC. The day’s activities began with a Mass at St. Sebastian Church, at 58-02 Roosevelt Ave. in Woodside. Afterwards, marchers placed wreaths at the Vietnam War Memorial at the corner of 57th Street and Woodside Avenue. The procession continued to Post 870 for a short memorial ceremony, then marched to Memorial Park at 60th Street and Roosevelt Avenue. The final stop was at Doughboy Plaza on Woodside Avenue at 56th Street.
