Addabbo Hosts Free Prostate Screening In Howard Beach

Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. once again teamed up with the Integrated Medical Foundation on May 20 to provide Free Prostate Cancer Screenings for men over the age of 40, who have not previously been diagnosed with cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, about 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, making it the third leading cause of cancer death in American men, behind colorectal and lung cancer.

“When it comes to the prostate, studies have shown that early detection is critical for prevention,” Addabbo said. ”That is why I am so pleased to bring back the Integrated Medical Foundation for another screening for the residents in southern Queens.”

More than 15 residents showed up to Addabbo’s Howard Beach district office, on May 20, for their free PSA blood test. Prior to the screening, participants were also treated to an informational lecture by IMF Executive Director Rhonda Samuel, about the dangers of having a high PSA.

“Serious illness is an unfortunate reality many of us are faced with every day,” Addabbo said. ”I always try and do what I can to make sure my constituents are given an opportunity to address any medical issues head on.”
