Jamaica HS Lacrosse - Bringing Diversity to the Game

The Jamaica High School lacrosse team. The Jamaica High School lacrosse team. The Jamaica High School lacrosse team plays in the city’s Pubic School Athletic League,  coached by Tom Grimaldi of Bayside.  Jamaica HS pioneered the game of lacrosse in New York City.  Jamaica, being the first New York City public school with a lacrosse team, has a rich history dating back to the early 1980s.  Unfortunately, the program was eventually dropped in the mid-1990s.  In their fourth season since being reinstated they posted an 8-7 record, earning them a playoff birth.  They also had four players earn New York City honors!

Jamaica HS’s lacrosse team is composed of mainly African American and South Asian players.  “They are bringing much-needed diversity to the game of lacrosse,” noted coach Grimaldi.
