Begun in 1990 to honor alumni whose professional success and dedication to philanthropy and public service embody the college’s motto, “Discimus ut serviamus: We learn so that we may serve,” the Gala is the college’s principal fundraiser, raising over $1 million in scholarship funds for a richly diverse student body representing more than 170 nations. Queens College students also play a role in the Gala as performers and guest liaisons, giving them an opportunity to interact with the honorees and other alumni.

Emmy-nominated actress, author, advocate for cancer awareness and Queens College alumna Fran Drescher was recognized with the college’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the school’s annual gala on May 3 at Guastavino’s in Manhattan. Joining Drescher – in a celebration that coincided with the college’s 80th anniversary – were longtime friends and actors Dan Aykroyd and Mrs. Donna Dixon-Aykroyd.
