Teacher Charged In Student Assault

Police arrested a 52-year-old Jackson Heights Middle School teacher on April 26 for allegedly grabbing a student’s hand and twisting it – causing the student to suffer a sprained finger.

Ramiro Cruz, a teacher at Intermediate School 145, also known as the Joseph Pulitzer School, on 80th Street in Jackson Heights, was charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child after the student reported the incident to school administrators.

The student was taken to a nearby hospital with a sprained left middle finger, a fire spokesperson said.

Cruz was taken to the 115th Precinct where he was processed and issued a Desk Appearance Ticket, police said.
