District Council 9 Union Workers Head To Bayside To "Keep It Teal" For Earth Day

On Saturday, April 22, a robust group of volunteers from District Council 9 (DC 9), IUPAT Painters & Allied Trades will show up bright and early, with paint brushes and rollers in hand, to kick off Earth Day 2017 with an environmentally friendly act of social volunteerism: They’ll give the Bayside headquarters of the Tourette Association of America (TAA) a fresh coat of special teal paint. DC 9 Business Agent John Sheppard is leading the effort for the second year in a row, while Larry Rubin of Sol Rubin Painting (Farmingdale, NY), K.P. Painting of Ronkonkoma, and Finishing Trade Institute (Apprentice Training Center) are generously donating all paint and supplies. The event will take place at 8:00 AM eastern on 42-40 Bell Blvd #205, Bayside, NY 11361.

“The Tourette Association of America is absolutely thrilled by this generous Earth Day gesture from Bayside’s DC 9 volunteers and Sol Rubin Painting in Farmingdale,” said John Miller, Tourette Association President and CEO. “Our TAA resources are dedicated almost exclusively to helping children and families who are coping with tics and Tourette disorders, making this community support from neighbors and TAA supporters like John Sheppard, Larry Rubin and the DC 9 volunteers particularly meaningful. Their support helps support our mission and uplifts our employees in the place where they do their best work.”

DC 9 is a statewide, century-old organization whose members are employed in painting, wall covering, glazier and architectural metal and glass work, structural steel and bridge painting, drywall finishing, window filming, metal polishing and sign and display painting. Members are active within their communities and partake in projects that support local charities and organizations throughout the region. Volunteer Earth Day painters will include Joe LaPlace, Gabriel Banos, Mike O’Connell, Lazlo Molner, Bob McLaughlin, Frank Jamie, Bill Dixson, Andy Zukas, Stanley Czarnecki, Mike Donnelly, Andy Terlieski, John Shepard, Joe Padilla, and others.

DC 9 Business Agent John Sheppard added, “Our team is grateful for the opportunity to be able to support TAA and conduct our work in Bayside, a town where many of us grew up and look forward to making this an annual tradition. We are here for Bayside families and proud to be a part of this tight-knit community.”

District Council 9 is a chapter of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, an organization of painters, decorators, wall covers, drywall finishers, sign painters, metal polishers, bridge & structural steel painters, civil service painters, lead abatement workers, glaziers & architectural metal glassworkers, paint makers, paint makers and allied trades. The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades is dedicated to securing and improving wages, benefits, and overall working conditions for its members.
