Perfections Nightclub Killer Gets 22 Years

By Liz Goff
A 30-year-old Queens Village man was sentenced to 22-years in prison last week, after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the October 2013 shooting death of a man outside a troubled Woodside strip club.

Dwayne Johnson pleaded guilty last year to the lesser charge of manslaughter in the shooting death of Allah Howell, 25, outside the notorious Perfections Nightclub on 30th Avenue near the

Brooklyn-Queens Expressway service road, prosecutors said.

Police at the 114th Precinct were responding to a 911 call of a disturbance at the juggle joint at about 4 a.m. on October 5, 2013, when an NYPD sergeant spotted Johnson point a firearm at Howell, prosecutors said. Johnson fired several rounds, striking Howell in the chest. The shots pierced Howell’s lung and heart, killing him.

According to court records, Johnson fled the scene on foot with the NYPD sergeant hot on his trail. He ditched the gun behind the nearby Bulova warehouse as he fled – and ran to the cemetery to evade police. Cops recovered the .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver behind a building in the Bulova parking lot. The weapon contained a mixture of Johnson’s DNA when it was recovered, prosecutors said.

When approached by the cops, Johnson shouted, “I don’t have anything! I did not shoot anyone!” authorities said. He then crawled under a fence and hid beneath some bushes and tall grass in the cemetery and kept still as police searched the graveyard for him.

Johnson was arrested moments later by police at the 114th Precinct.

“The defendant has now been sentenced for the senseless killing of a 25-year-old man outside a nightclub in Queens,” Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said. “As a result of this brazen crime, the children of the victim will never see their father again. And the defendant – a father as well – will be locked away for a long term of incarceration,” Brown said. “Violence has no place in a civilized society.”
