Borough President Melinda Katz joined Council Member Costa Constantinides at the Astoria Cove site, to stand in support of Astoria residents concerned about the “accumulating construction debris and illegal dumping taking place,” Katz said. Construction on the project stalled after the expiration of the tax abatement program last year, and the property was recently put up for sale. During an April 6 visit to the site, Borough President Katz called upon the developers to live up to their agreements, which include a pledge to use union labor. Union officials claim unqualified, non-union workers have been handling debris on the site.
