Cops Hunt Masked, Shotgun Toting Thief

By LIZ GOFF
Police are searching for a shotgun toting bandit who followed a man to his Middle Village home on the night of March 16, and threatened to shoot the victim before making off with the man’s $200 coat.

Cops said the bandit and an accomplice followed the victim to his home on 62nd Road near 69th Street at about 11:50 p.m. on March 16.

Surveillance footage recovered by police clearly shows the armed and masked bandit following the victim up the steps to his front stoop. The bandit then tried to pump the shotgun, but he realized the safety was on and tried to release it, the video shows.

The angry gunman shouted at the victim, demanding that he hand over a gold chain he wore around his neck. When the victim refused, the gunman threatened to shoot him if he refused to hand over the coat.

The victim fought back, but the gunman grabbed the coat and fled with his accomplice, who was waiting a short distance away, police said.

The victim, who was not seriously injured in the attack, refused medical treatment, an FDNY spokesperson said.

Police are urging anyone with information to call the CrimeStoppers HOTLINE at 1-800-577-TIPS or click on www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
