Shopper Spots Skimmer On ATM

By Liz Goff
Police are searching for a man who was captured on surveillance footage attaching a skimming machine to an ATM at a 7-Eleven store in Jackson Heights on March 10.

Cops said the suspect attached the skimmer to an ATM at the 7-Eleven store at 87-16 Astoria Boulevard at about 5 p.m. on March 10.

A woman shopping at the store less than 10-minutes later spotted the skimmer on the machine and alerted an employee, who called police.

Police removed the device from the ATM and are currently investigating to determine if the suspect swiped customer information on the interim, an NYPD spokesperson said.

Cops said thieves targeted the same store back in 2015, when a store manager and an employee spotted one of the devices on an ATM and “tore it off.”

Officials at the 115th Precinct are urging the public to “yank” ATMs before using in order to spot externally mounted skimming devices installed by the thieves.
