Retired Corrections Officer Arrested In Wife Shooting

A 55-year-old retired city Corrections officer shot and wounded his estranged wife at their Woodside home on March 11, police said.

Cops said Victor Guzman fled after the 8 p.m. shooting at their home at 48-31 59th Street, leaving his wife bleeding from a chest wound.

Guzman and his wife Maria, 51, were going through a divorce at the time of the shooting.
Cops found Guzman waling on 60th Street near Laurel Hill Boulevard a short time after the shooting and recovered a gun in his possession, police said. He is facing assault and weapons charges, authorities said.

Maria Guzman was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center where she is listed in serious but stable condition.
