Crash Kills Astoria Man, 62

By Liz Goff
A 62-year-old Astoria man died on March 6 from injuries he suffered in a traffic collision at a local intersection.

Cops said Mohammed Nada was driving his 2012 Volkswagen Jetta eastbound on 35th Avenue, just after 5 pm on March 1, when a 2003 Ford Taurus sped southbound on 31st Street. The impact sent the Volkswagen head-on into a subway pillar at the intersection of 35th Avenue, police said.

The driver of the Taurus sped into the northbound lane on 31st Street to pass another vehicle and struck Nada’s car in the intersection at 35th Avenue, police said.

The Volkswagen slammed into the “el” pillar and a car parked nearby, police said.

Nada was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center where he died five days later of injuries he suffered in the crash.

The unidentified driver of the Taurus remained at the scene and was not immediately charged in the crash, pending the outcome of a probe by police at the NYPD Accident Investigation Squad.

A police source said the accident occurred just two blocks from Nada’s home.
