Astoria Wine Bar Closed For HealthViolations

By Liz Goff
The city Department of Health (DOH) shut down an Astoria wine bar last week after inspectors discovered numerous violations.

Inspectors closed the Winegasm Wine Bar at 31-86 37th Street on March 8, after the establishment raked up 40 health code violations, a DOH spokesperson said. The violations were uncovered during a routine inspection, including evidence of rodents on the premises and failure to protect food from a potential source of contamination, the spokesperson said.

Lesser violations included a failure by the owners to keep the establishment vermin proof, and proof of an inaccurate thermometer in refrigerated and hot food holding spaces.

The bar would remain temporarily shuttered until the owners make necessary adjustments and the premises pass new inspections, the DOH spokesperson said.
