Napoli Pizza and Pasta

Napoli Pizza & Pasta is as real as it gets. Homemade, authentic Neopolitan pizza and all your favorite pasta dishes bring the crowds in to take out, or to stay in and eat in the characteristic “downstairs” kitchen and dining room. This nostalgic family restaurant is exactly what everyone needs right now, in these chaotic times. Come on down and get your fill of authentic pizza, simple, yet perfectly delicious pasta dishes, meat, poultry, and seafood too. On a recent windy weeknight, Napoli was packed with a very ethnically and demographically diverse clientele, for which Queens is famous and envied. As my favorite Aunt and I looked around the dining room, we saw people of all ages, all colors and ethnicities, some with children, some on dates, some were NYPD, some were friends, but all came with an open heart and an empty stomach for Antonio Petito’s Neopolitan cuisine.

Petito has been making the pizza sauce every day from scratch according to his family’s recipe for nearly 20 years. The phone rings off the hook with orders to go, while Rosaria works the cozy dining room. We started with juicy stuffed mushrooms filled with savory breadcrumbs and topped with a dollop of tomato sauce. Crispy, tender calamari rings are so delicious as are the hand cut fried zucchini sticks, and mozzarella sticks that you’ll have to fight the kids for them! Eggplant rollatini are great for sharing or as a main course, and their garlic bread is irresistible, topped with a sprinkling of fresh parsley and served straight from the oven. The antipasto salad and house salad are full of fresh vegetables and offer plenty to share as well.

Enjoy some classic baked pasta while the weather is still cold, such as the tender manicotti crepes filled with fluffy, seasoned ricotta or baked, stuffed shells ($7.50). Don’t tell your grandma that Napoli’s lasagna is better than hers, but there will be enough left over to have for lunch the next day. Baked ziti travels well, so order it to go or let Napoli cater your next family or business event.

How does a heaping plate of spaghetti Bolognese, topped with a rich, meaty sauce sound? You can have that same savory sauce over toothsome tortellini if you like. Classic fettuccine alfredo is creamy and decadent, while the carbonara sauce gets extra flavor from smoky pancetta ($7.95). One of the house favorites is pasta alla Napoli, tossed with chunks of tender chicken breast, thinly sliced mushrooms, plum tomatoes, basil, white wine, garlic and parsley; all for the incredible price of just $9.95. Napoli allows you to choose your favorite pasta among linguini, spaghetti, bow ties, ziti, penne, whole wheat penne, or fusilli twists, and top it with your favorite sauce. Enjoy a glass or two of the house red or white to compliment your meal.

Classic chicken and veal dishes include parmigiana style, done with a homemade flair, chicken Francese or marsala with sliced mushrooms and a splash of sweet marsala wine. Fresh shrimp scampi with a garlic and butter sauce goes well over linguini. My aunt ordered the flaky fillet of sole, which was perfectly cooked, while I devoured a bowl of linguini and white clam sauce, chock full of tender clams. salmon filet is on the menu too, and Rosaria will tell you about the specials of the evening.

Cap your meal off Italian style with a delicious cup of espresso and a cool tartufo ice cream treat, crunchy cannoli, or homemade Italian cheesecake drizzled with chocolate sauce.

Napoli Pizza & Pasta is open 7 days a week for lunch or dinner. Lunch time is popular for their fabulous pizza, calzones, and hero sandwiches piled high with eggplant or chicken parmigiana, sausage and peppers, or juicy meatballs. They make a nice hamburger too. Napoli will cater to your home or office, so leave the cooking to the experts. The food is home made, the atmosphere is very casual and characteristically Queens, and the service is friendly and efficient. Napoli Pizza and Pasta is what you need right now.
