Postal Worker Slashed in Laurelton

A U.S. Postal worker was slashed in the face while delivering mail at a home in Laurelton on 220th Street.

The 49-year-old victim was attacked at around noon when a man opened the front door as she delivered the mail and slashed her on the left side of her face, police said.

The suspect, 32-year-old Robert Powell, closed the door and barricaded himself inside as a hostage team responded and broke down the door and took him custody shortly after 1:30 p.m.

Powell has 34 prior arrests, mostly for criminal contempt and now faces several charges including assault.

The postal worker was taken to North Shore Manhasset Hospital, where she's in stable condition.
