5-Year-Old Brings Heroin To Whitestone School

By Liz Goff
Police are trying to determine where a 5-year-old Whitestone boy got hold of a container of suspected heroin that he brought with him to school on March 3.

The boy’s startled teacher alerted administrators at PS 209 in Whitestone after he showed her the container of white powder on Friday morning, a police source said. “The boy walked up to his teacher and took the container from his backpack because he wanted her to see it,” the source said. “She picked up the phone and told her bosses.”

School officials alerted police, who confiscated the container, the source said. “Preliminary tests confirmed the powder was heroin, but NYPD officials are awaiting the results of further tests to confirm the contents,” a police spokesperson said.

A Department of Education spokesperson said the agency would take action based on the results of the NYPD probe.

Police questioned the boy’s mother but it is unclear if she is being eyed in their investigation, an NYPD spokesperson said.
