It’s A Wonderful Bank

When the Gazette started 35 years ago, banking was very different than it is today. The changes have allowed for a massive proliferation of banks and ATMs throughout Queens. This issue of the Queens Gazette highlights the banks in our communities. We can now bank 24/7, from home, on the road, on our phones, at ATMs – and yes, still at the branch level, which many of us prefer for the safety and service, not to mention the smile from a friendly teller. Many prefer the reassuring, personal touch from a knowledgeable banker when seeking a mortgage; business, college and car loans; credit and debit cards and more. We certainly appreciate all the banks that put “community” in banking – taking the name to heart by participating and investing in neighborhoods to make them strong – holding holiday events, charity drives, donating to causes, holding financial literacy classes in money management, and fostering the habit of saving in children, to name a few examples. We are not getting into the technical aspects or banking and rates etc., but in the final analysis, good news for banking is ultimately good news for Queens.
