On 14th Street Sports Bar

“On 14th Street” is not just a location…it’s a new bar that opened recently on the Western edge of Astoria. On 14th Street is a local bar with friendly folks, from the staff to the locals that frequent it. This is a good place to watch the games on muted screens, while the jukebox plays and you shoot the breeze with your buddies. Enjoy a frosty beer from the taps or bottles, or your favorite mixed drink or cocktail. Shake up a martini, Cosmopolitan, Sea Breeze or savor, some smoky bourbon. The bar and dining area are neat and tidy, and you’ll be greeted with a smile and a friendly welcome.

A hearty lunch is served from 11am to 4pm Monday to Friday with nice options including great wings with barbecue sauce, crispy Parmesan crust, or pineapple salsa. Chef Kerry does a great job with sandwiches and burgers. The Bankshot Sandwich is full of slowcooked pulled pork in bourbon BBQ sauce, topped with apple slaw, while the On Deck Torta is full of beer battered catfish, chipotle mayo, and lime slaw. The Hit and Run combines grilled pineapple teriyaki chicken with greens, tomato and ginger teriyaki dressing. Spice it up with the Pit Road; jerk spiced chicken with coconut rum waffles and maple syrup.

Wrap up a vegetarian Huddle whole grain wrap with sautéed kale, curry hummus, and spicy chick peas for a healthy choice. Kale and mushroom salad is flecked with sweet berries, candied walnuts, brussel sprouts, goat cheese and bulgar for another satisfying, healthy lunch. Their veggie burger is called Blitz Rajma and it’s full of beans, beetroot, kale, and sun dried tomato, topped with fig chutney. You’ll need both hands for the Strike Zone Burger, made with grass-fed beef, cheddar cheese, maple bourbon bacon, arugula and tomato. Sandwiches and burgers cost between $10 and $12, and are served with hand cut fries with rosemary salt, making lunch here an economical choice and way better than fast food.

For dinner, try the Blackout Tacos with spiced pork or salmon, salsa, and pina colada cream. Pai Gow Tacos are filled with spicy chicken, Asian style slaw and hot sauce ($12.99). Creamy mac ‘n cheese can be topped with brussel sprouts, short rib meat, or pulled pork for a dish that will make you want to walk home. Hearty quesadillas are filled with kale, sweet potatoes and melted cheese, and make a great starter to share, or dinner for one.

On 14th Street will be serving brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm starting March 4th, when you can try their Goalkeeper Gypsy French toast topped with coconut streusel. Savory potato pancakes are stacked with sausage, mushroom gravy and a fried egg for a meal that will keep you going all day. I hear the crab cakes are great too, and are also served for dinner.

On 14th Street is open 7 days a week for weekday lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. In the evening, enjoy the games at the bar while the juke box plays the hits of the day. Stop in one day for a beer, a great sandwich, burger, dinner, or weekend brunch, served with a smile.
