Plan New Development At Car Wash Site

By Liz Goff
The owners of a popular Jackson Heights car wash have filed for a zoning change that would allow them to develop an eight-story commercial building – or a six-story residential mixed-use building at the site.

The zoning change would clear a path for owners H&M LLC to pull the plug on the decades-old Classic Car Wash at 74-04 Northern Boulevard to make way for the new building.

The proposed commercial building would feature ground floor retail sapce, parking for 239 vehicles on the second and third floors, 18,400-square-feet of community space on the fourth floor, and commercial or office space on the fifth through eighth floors.

Plans show the proposed six-story residential building would feature retail and commercial space on the ground floor and 53 residential units on the upper floors.

The request for the zoning change is making its way through the city’s Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) that includes public input from the local Community Board and approval from the Queens Borough President’s office, the City Planning Commission and the City Council.

If approved, the construction phase of the project is expected to be completed by mid-2018.
