Maspeth Man Faces Nine Years For Burglaries

By Liz Goff
A 54-year-old Maspeth man is facing nine years in prison after pleading guilty to burglarizing homes throughout Queens County.

Juan Cuervo, of 56th Avenue in Maspeth, pleaded guilty in Queens Supreme Court on February 14, to multiple second-degree burglary charges, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

“In pleading guilty, the defendant has admitted to brazenly breaking into several homes across a wide swath in Queens County,” Brown said. “The defendant not only invaded the victim’s personal and private spaces, but he ransacked their homes and stole their possessions. The defendant will be incarcerated for his actions,” Brown said.

A criminal complaint filed with the court says Cuervo burglarized nine different homes in Queens neighborhoods between September 15 and December 7, 2016, including homes in Elmhurst and Flushing. In each incident, the defendant ransacked the residences and stole property including a camera, silver coins, jewelry and cash, the complaint says.

Cuervo is facing five years in prison and five years post release supervision when he is sentenced on March 17.
