Manor Oktoberfest

Bring the whole family, or a bunch of your friends to Manor Oktoberfest in Forest Hills, where you’re treated like family in a warm, gastropub atmosphere. Manor Oktoberfest is located on Yellowstone Blvd, between Queens Blvd. and Woodhaven Blvd., where parking is easy. Warm, exposed brick walls hold a big blackboard highlighting the Daily Specials. Wooden booths, subtle colors and soft lighting make the spacious dining room very pleasant, while the hefty bar welcomes men and women of all ages to gather and chat about the events of the day while they sample some of the 60+ beers available from all over the world. Whatever your favorite brew is, you’ll be sure to find it here, including Weiss biers, Belgian beers, stouts, IPAs, ales, and more.

Get happy with a hand-shaken cocktail, such as the popular Red Baron, a classic martini, black forest with cherry brandy, or a perfectly mixed old fashioned while your appetizer is being prepared. Manor Oktoberfest makes all their dishes from scratch using the best ingredients. Everything is nicely presented and served piping hot and the service could not be more friendly and attentive. Order a giant, warm pretzel for the table and dab it into the mustard, then enjoy crisp potato pancakes with apple sauce, ideal for sharing. The pierogi sample is very popular, made by hand with the day’s fillings ($8). We dug into the fall-off-the-bone half rack of baby back ribs and enjoyed licking our fingers after. Moist, flavorful crab cakes with homemade tartar sauce are delicious, as are the crunchy coconut shrimp, served with Asian dipping sauce ($10). Of course, you can get classic hot wings, beer-battered onion rings, and smoked Black Forest Bacon to nibble on at the bar while you watch the game, or at the table.

Manor Oktoberfest offers the perfect combination of traditional German fare and American dishes too, with a nice variety of nightly specials to please the regulars. Try the “best of the wurst,” featuring your choice of bratwurst, chicken bratwurst, knockwurst, kielbasa or giant frankfurter on a toasted club roll with their fabulous potato salad. What a great lunch for just $7 or $10 with potato salad. These juicy wursts can also be ordered as a main course platter, where you choose two different varieties with German potato salad and sauerkraut.

My hungry companion and I shared Hungarian style schnitzel; a breaded, fried cutlet that cuts with a fork, topped with spicy Hungarian paprika sauce, served with spaetzle and cucumber salad. Enjoy classic wiener schnitzel, made from tender pork cutlets pounded thin, breaded and fried until golden brown. A squeeze of lemon was all this savory cutlet needed and I loved the sweet, sour red cabbage and potatoes that accompany this dish. Jaegerschnitzel adds a topping of creamy mushroom sauce to this hearty meal, served with home fried potatoes and red cabbage ($22). Traditional sauerbraten is made from tender beef that is braised in savory sauce, sliced thin and served with spaetzle and red cabbage ($23). Smoked loin pork chops, called kassler rippchen, are very popular for their tenderness and smoky flavor. You can “Oktoberize” any entree by adding their black forest bacon, sautéed onions and mushrooms to it for just $4. Oktoberfest kids eat for just $8 from the kids’ menu.

On the American side of entrees, there’s excellent grilled chicken, roast duck confit with roasted potatoes and vegetables, and roast pork tenderloin. The fish is fresh and tasty here too, with options that include lemon-herb filet of sole, grilled tuna steak, and grilled salmon, all served with roasted potatoes and vegetables.

For lunch or dinner, Manor Oktoberfest offers juicy grilled burgers, bratwurst sandwiches, BBQ pulled pork, hot corned beef, grilled chicken club sandwiches, smoked black forest bacon club sandwiches, and more. A meal at Manor Oktoberfest isn’t complete without a slice of warm apple strudel and vanilla ice cream, chocolate mud cake, raspberry almond cake, or creamy cheesecake and a rich cup of coffee. There’s an impressive list of single malt whiskys, bourbons, and cordials to end your meal as well.

Just behind the dining room, Manor Oktoberfest has a beautiful room for private parties. This airy space has a cozy fireplace and is elegantly appointed for your next engagement party, shower, birthday, anniversary or business event. Please call for catering details.

Manor Oktoberfest is a family-friendly place for traditional German and American fare at lunch or dinner. The bar is always open and the beers are fresh and flowing, as is the conversation and the good times at this local eatery. Plan your next family or business event here and leave it to the experts. They’re open 6 days a week, with the kitchen open until 11pm on weekends and closed Mondays. Make every day an Oktoberfest day….Prost!
