Council Member Peter Koo hosted a workshop with the New York City Department of Small Business Services, the Flushing Business Improvement District, and the Legal Aid Society to assist local Flushing businesses impacted by last month’s fire on Roosevelt Avenue and Main Street to get back on their feet.

Eight businesses were serviced at the multilanguage workshop, which dealt with issues ranging from insurance, commercial leasing, tenant rights, and other legal issues. Koo’s office is planning additional workshops in the future to address topics such as understanding commercial leases and how businesses can plan for an emergency.

Council Member Koo stated, “Running a business in New York City is a difficult and complicated task that is made more challenging in the event of an emergency, such as last month’s devastating fire. Preparation is key to bouncing back after an emergency, and I’m grateful for the services our community has received from the City of New York, the Flushing BID and Legal Aid Society that will help address many of the problems facing our local businesses.”
