Koo Announces Campaign For Reelection

At a press event held in front of Flushing Library, New York City Council Member Peter Koo officially announced his campaign for reelection. Elected officials from various levels of government attended to show their support.

Congress Member Grace Meng stated, “I am proud to support my good friend Councilman Peter Koo because he has always been a strong and effective leader for the people in Flushing. His leadership on fighting for middle-class families and championing small business has been stellar. I look forward to continuing working with him for another four years.”

Queens Borough President Melinda Katz stated, “Councilman Peter Koo has always represented his district with distinction in the City Council. I am proud to support him and proud to call him my friend. Together, we saved over 100 students and their families from losing their after school programs, made education a priority by funding vital capital improvements in our local schools, and highlighted the diversity of our borough by supporting our local cultural institutions. The people of Queens need Peter Koo in the City Council so that he can continue working with me on behalf of our great borough.”

“Council Member Koo has been a steadfast representative and someone the people of Queens can count on. He embodies the American Dream, having immigrated here in the ‘70s to attend college, he became a small business owner and President of the Flushing Chinese Business Association, before ultimately running for elected office. He knows the issues small business owners and immigrants face because he has faced them himself. The Councilman has made a point to fully be present in his district, so much so that his constituents lovingly refer to him as the Mayor of Flushing. I am proud to call Peter both a friend and colleague and fully endorse his campaign for reelection,” said state Senator Toby Ann Stavisky.

Assembly Member Nily Rozic stated, “I know firsthand through working with Council Member Peter Koo that he is committed to serving as a voice on issues affecting Queens. Whether he is advocating for small business owners or investing in our schools, he actively works with the community to ensure needs are being met. I proudly endorse Council Member Koo for reelection, and look forward to building a better Queens together.”

Assembly Member Ron Kim stated, “Peter has served our district as Council Member for the past 7 years, and fought for the rights of our community members. As the “mayor of Flushing” he has advocated fiercely on behalf of our residents, and I know he will continue to do so for the next 4 years. His tireless efforts have made many in our community proud. I hope all New Yorkers will join us in supporting his reelection campaign, and look forward to his victory this November!”

“I fully support Peter Koo for another term in the City Council, he is a hard working dedicated leader who fights for better schools safer streets and stronger small businesses,” said Council Member Elizabeth Crowley.

Council Member Koo stated, “Fellow colleagues and members of the press, thank you for being here today as I announce my bid for reelection to the NYC Council!  I am honored to have the support of the Queens Democratic Party and my esteemed colleagues. I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to work with so many great legislators on all levels of government and serve the residents of this great city. I am equally humbled by the faith residents of the 20th Council District in me as their City Council representative. This honor is something I take with great pride, care and importance.

“Since being elected, I am proud that my office has answered over 12,000 constituent cases. My office has tried to help everyone who has called in the past 7 years. Many of them were from outside of my district, and many were about issues related to state or federal government. However, my wonderful staffers and myself always do our best to connect them with proper government agencies or the elected officials represent their districts.

“In the past 7 years, I secured over $55 million funding for important local programs and necessary capital projects. This money went to  schools in our district, affordable housing, security systems for Bland Houses, Latimer Gardens, Leavitt-34th Street and downtown Flushing, the creation of a Meditation Garden in Kissena Corridor Park, Renovation of Murray Hill, Maple and Saul Weprin Playgrounds, additional sanitation and anti-graffiti services, libraries, street beautification and many local community organizations that provided assistance to local residents,” Koo said.

“Last but not the least, as a legislator, I sponsored and co-sponsored 1,608 (pieces of) legislation in City Council, including the bill of landmark reform. It has updated the rules after 50 years, and made the landmarking process more responsive to the needs of local communities, landmark owners and the city as a whole.

“With your help and support I want to do more for the community I am proud to represent. I want to continue to fight for needed capital projects, save important programs and improve the overall quality of life. I hope to continue to use my immigrant experience and business acumen to help shape a brighter future for District 20 and this great city. When reelected, I look forward to working with my colleagues in the City Council and State Legislature to achieve wonderful things for the people of New York City,” Koo concluded.

New York City Council Member Peter Koo officially announced his campaign for reelection. Members of the community and elected officials from various levels of government attended the event in front of Flushing Library to show their support, including state Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, Council Members Karen Koslowitz and Barry Grodenchik, and Queens Borough President Melinda Katz.
