Glow-In-The-Dark Senior Safety

Welcome to New York City, home of glow-in-the-dark seniors.

Cops at local precincts in Queens are again distributing reflective decals to seniors for use on their walkers, canes and clothing, to make it easier for them to be seen by cyclists and motorists.

NYPD officials said the reflective decals would, hopefully, will catch the eye of motorists and bike riders to help prevent them from striking seniors as they cross the street, stand in crosswalks or walk along sidewalks at night.

The decals are part of Mayor Bill deBlasio’s Vision Zero traffic safety initiative, police officials said. The “dusk and dawn” initiative has successfully reduced traffic fatalities during twilight hours, when vehicles and bicycles strike the most people, police said.

For more information call 311 or the Crime Prevention Officer at your local precinct.
