Cops Eye Heart Ailment In Astoria Infant Death

Police are awaiting a ruling by the city Medical Examiner’s office to determine the cause of death of a five-month-old Astoria girl.

Police said little Malak Alzouhanni was found unconscious by her mother inside her family’s apartment on 34th Street near 30th Avenue at about 5:15 am on January 30th. First responders who arrived at the scene were told that the mother had panicked and brought the baby to Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens in a taxi instead of waiting for the ambulance.

The baby, who was born with a heart condition, died a short while after she arrived art the hospital. Police said the baby did not show bruises or signs of abuse, and that her death was likely caused by the existing heart condition.
