In announcing his bid for reelection, Council Member Paul Vallone was joined by Assembly Member Ron Kim, Council Members Donovan Richards and Karen Koslowitz, state Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, Council Member Barry Grodenchik and Assembly Member Edward Braunstein. Surrounded by hundreds of supporters, Council Member Paul Vallone officially kicked off his reelection campaign on the night of January 26th. The packed room, filled with elected officials, civic and business leaders, educators, senior advocates, constituents, friends and family was a testament to all the work Council Member Vallone has accomplished in just three years. “For too long, northeast Queens had faced stagnant funding and a lack of resources. In his first three years, Vallone has secured $40 million in funding for northeast Queens, nearly as much as it had gotten in the previous nine city budgets combined. Under Vallone’s leadership, schools, parks, libraries and senior centers have seen an unprecedented influx of funding and will continue to thrive like never before,” according to Vallone’s press release.

Although the election season has barely begun, after Thursday’s kickoff Vallone’s campaign is nearly fully funded and has maxed out matching funds from small personal donations from all over the district.

Speaking to the crowd, Council Member Vallone stated, “It has truly been an honor to serve as your Council Member these past three years. My primary focus from day one was to put northeast Queens back on the map, and I’m happy to say we’ve done that. Everyone in this room has played a part in the resurgence of northeast Queens. As I begin the last year of my first term, I am reaffirming my commitment to always fight to preserve our quality of life while continuously supporting our schools, safety, seniors and small businesses.”

“The PS 169 and BELL Academy campus has been fortunate to be supported by an involved and supportive Council Member, Paul Vallone. He has ensured that he is present at our many school events – from performances, to festivals and graduation ceremonies. He is always willing to meet with our students to discuss their civic responsibilities and support them in their many community service endeavors, which has had a tremendous impact on our local community in the form of animal adoption events, food drives, clothing drives, and various partnerships with local charities,” said Vanessa Rosa, Principal of PS 169 and David Abbott, Principal of BELL Academy in a joint statement. “In addition, Council Member Vallone is always readily available to discuss and assist us with our needs and concerns as a school. Through his actions, Council Member Vallone has proven that our schools and our students are his priority”

Jack Fried, President of the 111th Precinct Community Council contributed a personal statement, saying “The bedrock of our democracy is the rule of law. Council Member Vallone has always been a strong advocate of the men and women of the New York City police force for supporting that democracy.”

“Sometimes things seem impossible until they get done,” said Rhonda Caruso, Director of the HANAC Angelo Petromelis Senior Center. ”His support of our center has touched the lives of all our members and made the impossible, possible. Council Member Vallone knows what we do today improves all our tomorrows.”

“Council Member Paul Vallone has had a huge, positive impact on the revitalization efforts of the Douglaston Village Community since he was elected three years ago! In our current era, where sometimes communities struggle to connect with their governmental leaders, I cannot think of a more positive and productive relationship than that which we have enjoyed between Douglaston, the DLDC, and City Councilman Paul Vallone,” stated Victor Dadras, Douglaston Local Development Corporation. ”It is truly a model for how our communities and city government can best work together. We fully support Councilman Vallone’s reelection efforts, and look forward to continue working with him and his staff for the revitalization of the Douglaston Village community!”
