City Extends Christmas Tree Curbside Pickups

The Department of Sanitation (DOS) has extended its Christmas tree curbside pick up program to accommodate folks who just couldn’t part with their holiday spruce.

There is still time to unwind the tinsel and place the tree curbside for recycling. Curbside collection of Christmas trees has been extended through Saturday, January 28, DOS officials said. The program was originally set to end as of January 14.

You must follow these rules for curbside pickup:

  • Do not wrap or place trees in plastic or plastic bags
  • Remove the tree from the tree stand
  • Remove all tinsel, ornaments and light

All trees collected by DOS will be chipped and processed into mulch, which will be spread in city parks, community gardens and ball fields, officials said.
