Cops: Google Safely On The Street

NYPD officials are urging the public to use common sense street smarts when walking alone, especially at night, while plugged into iPhones and other electronic devices.

Officials are urging the public to avoid being distracted by phones and gadgets that prevent them from staying alert to other people, traffic and possibly dangerous conditions.

“People have a tendency to get lost in conversation and information gathering,” police officials said. “Users tend to ignore their surroundings and all that is going on around them in the daytime or at night.

“It’s okay to keep in touch with friends and family or research information, but stay alert to what’s happening around you,” officials said. “Stay alert and stay safe. Remember, there is plenty of time for conversation or to google in the safety of your home.”
