Astoria Man Facing 12-Years On Child Porn Charges

By Liz Goff
Police last week arrested a 25-year-old Astoria man who was using his Google account to download child porn images.

Detectives started probing Charles Flores, 25, after officials at Google alerted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that two child porn images were downloaded, in 2015, to a Gmail account in Flores’ name, prosecutors said.

When investigators traced the account to Flores’ home on 38th Street near Broadway in Astoria, he admitted he downloaded files containing the images to an external hard drive, a police source said. The cops found a total of 10 child porn videos and 20 child porn photos on the hard drive, prosecutors said.

Flores was arrested at his Astoria home on December 28, and charged with 30 counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child at his arraignment at Queens Criminal Court.

Flores told investigators he began “collecting and hoarding the images in the beginning to help his girlfriend,” prosecutors said. “What started out as curiosity became his obsession,” prosecutors declared.

Prosecutors and NYPD officials refused to comment on Flores’ girlfriend or her alleged involvement in the matter.

Flores was held in lieu of $7,500 bond and $5,000 cash bail at his arraignment. He could face 12 years in jail, if convicted.
