Helping Kids Have Brighter, Healthier Smiles

Queens Borough President Melinda Katz partnered with the New York University College of Dentistry (NYUCD) to provide free dental screenings to children at three public schools in Queens in November, with the first set of screenings having taken place on November 18th at PS 37Q in Laurelton. The screenings were provided by a licensed dentist and by fourth-year NYU dental students from NYUCD and took place aboard NYUCD’s Smiling Faces, Going Places van. Participating children also received quick lessons on healthy oral habits, along with “goodie bags” that included toothbrushes, toothpaste and dental health information. Borough President Katz is shown here, with participating children from PS 37Q, along with school and van staff members and PS 37Q’s Principal, Pascale Benjamin-Pereira (rear, fourth from l.).
