Take A Ride Back In Time

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) officials are putting vintage buses and subways back in business for the holiday season.

The MTA is offering straphangers an opportunity to jump on buses and subways from the late 1930s to the early 1970s throughout the holiday season.

Straphangers can take a ride on a 1970s subway car, complete with the shiny, cane-webbed seats that tore clothing and tons of women’s hosiery. The subway cars, dressed up in boughs and bows for the holiday season, will travel on the M line, between Queens Plaza and 2nd Avenue (59th Street) on Sunday, December 4, 11 and 18.

Passengers can catch the two-toned green and red buses along 42nd Street in Manhattan on weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm, an MTA spokesperson said.
