St. Francis Prep students have begun to gather donations for those less fortunate for Prep’s Annual Thanksgiving Drive. St. Francis Prep students have begun to gather donations for those less fortunate for Prep’s Annual Thanksgiving Drive. On Monday, November 14th, Saint Francis Prep students will be hearing presentations from local a community leader regarding the invaluable work being done by his agency. Mr. Jeffrey Smith is Development Director of Hour Children’s House in Long Island City, and he will be speaking to Prep’s nearly 2,500 students regarding the services provided to families with mothers who are incarcerated.

Prep students will be encouraged to remember Pope Francis’ challenge to be people of mercy and generosity. The theme of the Prep Thanksgiving Donation Drive comes from the Franciscan peace prayer, “It is in giving that we receive.” Students will also be asked to reflect on the scripture passage that describes Jesus healing 10 lepers, and only one expressed gratitude and thanks. The focus of this will be the importance of expressing gratitude and giving back.

Contributions can be made from November 14-21 to assist local agencies, specifically St. Aloysius and Incarnation Catholic Church Food Pantries, Hour Children’s House, St. John’s Bread and Life, St. Francis Table at St. Matthias Catholic Church, Queen of Peace Residence, and Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish Soup Kitchen.

School Chaplain Fr. Mark Simmons will celebrate the school’s Thanksgiving Liturgy on Wednesday, November 25th at 8:30 a.m. in Prep’s Brother Ralph Clifford Memorial Auditorium. Representatives of each agency will attend the Mass to receive their donations. Also, on Thursday, November 17th, members of the school community will prepare and serve a Thanksgiving meal for approximately 200 guests at Presentation Soup Kitchen.
