SHAREing & CAREing’s 22 Years Fighting Cancer

Photos by Dan Miller/DMD IMAGES On November 10, hundreds of local residents and cancer survivors from Queens and Long Island gathered at Riccardo’s By the Bridge in Astoria to help celebrate the 22nd anniversary of the non-for-profit social service organization that credited with having assisted cancer patients and their families.

Founded in 1994 under the leadership of Anna Kril, who today serves as the organization’s President, SHAREing & CAREing serves women who have been stricken with cancer by providing a number of free services, without regard to health insurance or family circumstances.

The evening started off with those attending partaking in a delicious buffet dinner accompanied by popular music. Joseph Pistilli, a member of the President’s Council and President of Pistilli Realty Group.

From screening through diagnosis through treatment through aftercare, through survivorship and sadly through passing. With heartfelt gratitude to my staff, Board of Directors and Committee members for embracing my vision and making it your own,” wrote Founder and President Anna Kril.

The honorees at this year’s annual dinner gala included; Guest of Honor George R. Prezioso, Executive Vice President of Wealth Management, Branch Manager; Ira G. Cooper, Esq. Cooper & Paroff, P.C. Health Care Excellence Award went to Nia Berdebes, Associate Director Radiology Systems Administrator at NYC Health & Hospitals/ Elmhurst. Nia was born in Brooklyn, raised in Queens and currently resides in Nassau County. The Health Care Excellence awards went to Christina Casale-Duggan, MS. PA-C who serves as Breast Health Coordinator for the Department of Surgery at Queens Hospital Center, Stella Rubino, D.O. FAAFP, Director of Palliative Care Medicine, Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens and Lilian Espinoza, LCSW, ACHP/SW, Assistant Director of Palliative Care Medicine, Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens. The Community Recognition Award was given to Lindsay A. Pistilli Camerata and Michael Pistilli, Vice Presidents of the Pistilli Reality Group and Edith Lopez, Rent Regulated Housing Specialist, Pistilli Realty Group.

In addition to the previous announced awards, the evening’s MC, Joseph Pistilli called up Ana M. Rodriguez to accept the Gloria D’Amico Lifetime Achievement Award. Ana is the Director of Community Relations and Volunteer Services at Mount Sinai Queens. The award was presented by two of the grandchildren of Gloria D’Amico who served the borough of Queens for 19 years as its first female County Clerk. She also served as Commissioner of Jurors and was credited with bringing many reforms to the two offices. Prior to that she served for 20 years as the county’s Chair of the Queens County Board of Elections. She passed away in 2010 at the age of 83 and is remembered with this award in her name.

Peter Vallone Sr., former City Council Speaker said kind words about Kril and SHAREing & CAREing. He said that she almost singlehandedly changed the face of service to cancer survivors in Queens and throughout New York City for her unselfish efforts and her ability to marshal support from hundreds of others who shared her vision.

Thousands of dollars were raised for SHAREing & CAREing at this event as the result of a silent auction that included prizes donated by many individuals and business committed to helping those inflicted with cancer. Special presentations of checks to SHAREing & CAREing were presented by First Central Savings Bank Chairman Joseph Pistilli and also to the management of Riccardo’s by the Bridge, Tony and Mark Corbisiero.
