Teen Lure Coward Busted

By Liz Goff
The fiend accused of trying to lure an Elmhurst teenager to accompany him on October 15 showed his true colors when cops arrived at his apartment last week to arrest him, a police source said.

Police said Jamie Arias tried to jump from a window in his Queens apartment in a bid to evade detectives who went to arrest him on October 26, for trying to lure the 13-year-ols girl. “He wasn’t as brave as he appeared to be when he tried to convince the girl to accompany him,” a police source said. “He was a plain coward when he realized the detectives were there to take him away.”

Cops said the girl was waiting for her school bus inside the lobby of her family’s apartment building near 81st Street and 41st Avenue in Elmhurst at about 6:15 a.m. on October 6, when Arias allegedly approached her and repeatedly tried to lure her outside.

A police source said Arias the girl, “Don’t go to school. Come with me. I’ll buy you anything you want. I don’t care if you’re only 13.”

The terrified teen refused Arias’ come-on, and ran to the bus as soon as it pulled up outside the building, police said. Arias fled on foot when the girl ran to the bus, police said.

The girl told school administrators what had happened and they alerted police, authorities said. The teen was shaken but uninjured, police said.

The detectives apprehended Arias before he was able to jump, police said. Arias was charged with multiple counts of endangering the welfare of a child at his arraignment at Queens Criminal Court.
