Resorts World Casino NYC Celebrates Five Year Anniversary

Resorts World Casino New York City (RWNY) is marking its 5-year anniversary today, celebrating the amazing success it has experienced since opening its doors on October 28, 2011. As New York’s only casino, RWNY has welcomed more than 10 million guests annually, quickly becoming the region’s hottest gaming and entertainment destination. The two-level casino features more than 5,500 slots and electronic table games, including video poker, single-zero roulette, Baccarat, craps and blackjack, offering guests a variety of great gaming options.

Resorts World’s success has made an extraordinary impact in Queens and across New York State. Since 2011, RWNY, which pays a 70% tax rate, has created more than 1,500 good-paying jobs and fostered economic development in the local community, helping to create thousands of additional indirect jobs. Most importantly, Resorts World has generated over $1.6 billion for the state’s education fund, revenue that goes directly toward providing millions of students in New York with a higher quality public education.

“We are incredibly humbled by the success we have enjoyed since opening our doors five years ago,” said Ryan Eller, President of Resorts World Casino New York City. “Thanks to our strong partnerships at the state and local level, we have been fortunate to provide exceptional entertainment and gaming to millions of guests every year. The future of Resorts World New York City is brighter than ever before and we look forward to continued growth and prosperity.”

Over the past five years, Resorts World has been a committed partner to many local causes and projects. The casino has worked with non-profit organizations including the American Red Cross, the Queens Public Library, the Jamaica YMCA and the American Cancer Society. In addition, earlier this year the New York City Office of Emergency Management (OEM) announced a partnership with the casino to use its grounds as a Logistics Staging Area to allow for the deployment of critical commodities, supplies and equipment after a hurricane or an emergency event, specifically to service Howard Beach, the Rockaways and other sections of Queens.

And in September, Resorts World held its second annual Queens South Community Day, featuring a “Battle of the Badges” cook-off between the FDNY and NYPD, providing community members the chance to engage with NYC’s Bravest and Finest.

"As we approach its 5th Anniversary, whether I think about Resorts World in terms of its contribution of over $1 billion to our education system, credible job opportunities, a good neighbor in the community or a world-class gaming site, I know we have witnessed only a fraction of its true potential and success,” said State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo. “I look forward to working with Resorts World as a reliable partner in the community."

“In five short years, Resorts World has provided jobs to thousands, partnered in countless local events, and played a key role in our recovery from Sandy,” said State Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder. “They've been a true friend to the community and helped raised hundreds of millions of dollars for education. I join families across southern Queens and Rockaway in wishing Resorts World a happy anniversary and continued prosperity and luck in the years ahead.”

A unique entertainment destination, Resorts World has also brought a variety of exciting events to Queens over the past several years including musical acts Boyz II Men, R. Kelly, salsa stars Eddie Santiago and Andy Montanez; the No Limits Tattoo Expo, which brought hundreds of internationally-acclaimed tattoo artists to showcase their talents; and action-packed championship boxing. This November, “Shark Tank” star and judge Daymond John will join Resorts World for a Meet-and-Greet, and in December, the New York Comic and Sci-Fi Expo “Wintercon” will host New York’s largest sci-fi convention at Resorts World.

RWNY kicked off “Anniversary Week”, a two-week-long series of special events, with a special Meet-and-Greet with “Wild N’ Out” creator Nick Cannon on Saturday, October 15, 2016. Anniversary weekend celebrations started on Wednesday, October 26 with a show by a Van Halen Tribute band; continuing with performances by Vivian Liu, RPM, Gary’s Gang and Front & Center.

Throughout Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the casino will host a wide variety of musicians including a brass band, mariachi group and steel drum ensemble. On Friday, Bar 360 will feature a live ESPN broadcast on its legendary 16' x 28' screen – the biggest T.V. in Queens. Non-stop entertainment will last the entire weekend, from noon to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
