The two fish clubs that meet alternate months at Alley Pond Environmental Center on Northern Blvd. in Douglaston consist of members ranging in age from 10 to 93 years of age. Their members have years of experience and possess knowledge not even written yet in books. A pair of twin brothers, who started at age 12, have been maintaining the fish hobby almost 68 years, starting with and continuing the original strain of Trinidad and Trinidad Gold guppies until today. The brothers are known throughout the hobby world as aquatic plant mavens, and have given presentations for many years in the New York area on the care and raising of aquatic plants. The club specializes not only in exotic guppies, but also endler livebearers, catfish, plecos, angel fish and all other live bearers and egg layers. “We have a great club with great people contributing. We have a large raffle and a large fish and plant auction every month,” said Ed Schmidt of the East Coast Guppy Association.
