First Annual ‘Batty Over Halloween’ A Spooktacular!



Central Astoria LDC’s “1st Annual Batty Over Halloween Celebration,” held Sunday, October 30th, on the Great Lawn at Astoria Park turned out to be a major hit with children and adults alike. For the most part, the costumed kiddies and adults came to the park via the parade down Ditmars Boulevard coordinated by the Astoria Moms Group, led by Lissette Paz. The two hour event, which featured activities such as face painting, balloon twisting, Halloween characters, a children’s musical adventure by Music for Aardvarks and a theater performance by Mainstages, as well as cotton candy and munchkin pumpkin giveaways, attracted close to 2,000 people Marie Torniali, Executive Director of Central Astoria LDC, said, “We thank Council Member Constantinides for conceiving and supporting another great family event and were thrilled with the tremendous turnout.” For his part, Council Member “Ghostbuster” Constantinides welcomed the crowd, saying he was so pleased with this first Batty Over Halloween event that it would become an annual tradition.
