Astoria Hellenic Community To Develop Vacant Lot

By Liz Goff
The Hellenic Orthodox Community of Astoria recently filed applications to develop a six-story, 10-unit, mixed-use building in an empty lot adjacent to the Demetrios Cathedral on 31st Street in Astoria.

Plans indicate the building will measure 11k232-square-feet, with 3,223-square-feet of ground floor community space that will probably be used by the Orthodox community as an educational facility.

Floors two-through-six will each feature two residential units averaging 801-square-feet, and are expected to be offered as rental units.

The new building will be located a half-block from the 30th Avenue (Grand Avenue) elevated N and Q subway line, a half-block from the Q102 bus line and within walking distance to the Hoyt/Astoria Boulevard transportation hub.

The development is also located near the entrance to the RFK Triborough Bridge, the Grand Central Parkway ant the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.
