Bayside HS Transitions Into Career & Tech School

Bayside High School has transitioned to a multi-programmed and college-infused Career & Technical Education school. CTE is not just a name. Students graduate from Bayside High School prepared for college and entry-level positions within their fields of study. At the current time, they offer six specialized programs: Digital Art & Design, Computer Programming & Web Design, Sports Medicine & Management, Environmental Engineering & Technology, Humanities & Non-Profit Management, and Music: Performance & Production.

Both the Digital Art & Design and Computer Programming & Web Design programs have been certified by New York State as CTE programs. Assistant Principal of School Development, Ms. Haroutunian, is working diligently with CTE Directors, Work-Based Learning Coordinators, and the Industry Advisory Board for the other four programs to follow suit.

Ms. Haroutunian stated, “Students within each of these programs have tremendous value-added benefits such as opportunities to acquire college credit, industry-based certifications, and work-based learning experiences, ranging from career-focused field trips to competitions to internships.”

Most recently, the NYC Department of Education has shown support for these programs with additional funding awarded in August which will go toward program enhancements, development, supplies, and staff development. Under the CTE tenets, teachers possess state certification corresponding to industry-based practices. As Bayside High School’s programs continue to be recognized, they seek to expand their CTE Programs and work to further enhance the learning of our students.
