Old Friends Laundromat No Wash-Out

More than 60 firefighters from 12 units battled a blaze at an Astoria Laundromat on September 5.

Firefighters were called to the “All Hands” blaze at the Old Friends Laundromat on Broadway ear 35th Street at about 5 a.m. on September 5, a fire spokesperson said.

Fire officials said the blaze that started in a bathroom at the rear of the Laundromat caused extensive damage to the interior of the three-story, mixed-use building. There were no injuries, fire officials said.

Fire officials determined the blaze was under control at about 6 a.m., the spokesperson said.

Fire Marshals are investigating to determine the exact cause of the blaze.

A worker cleaning the site on September 6 told the Gazette that the owner is planning to reopen the Laundromat as soon as necessary repairs and renovation s are completed.
