Water Main Break Floods Astoria Streets

A large water main break sent a torrent of muddy water gushing into an Astoria intersection on August 17, fire officials said.
The water main located near 30th Avenue and 12th Street ruptured at about 4:40 p.m. on August 17, causing local street closures and traffic headaches for motorists on nearby 21st Street.
Crews from the city Department of Environmental Protection arrived at the scene to shut down the water main and determine what caused the rupture. Department of Transportation workers were also at the scene to join in the cleanup.
No evacuations were necessary, but local residents and business owners were without water until the break was repaired.
